Is Ula'tek an Old God, or a loa?

Neither is confirmed. The lore deliberately stops short of calling her a true loa, and the 'Old God' label traces back to non-canon RPG-era speculation. What current lore does establish is her aberrant origin and her role as the weapon used to kill the C'Thrax Kith'ix — enough to keep the Old-God whisper alive without confirming it.

Why was she sealed away for sixteen thousand years?

Accepted Answer

Because the Amani summoned her to win a war and then realized they could not unmake what they had called up. She did her work against Kith'ix too well; a weapon of pure hatred has no off switch. So her own makers buried her beneath the Coiled Isle rather than risk what she would do next.

Datamined story beats point to Hex Lord Malacrass's lingering spirit manipulating Zul'jan — grandson of Zul'jin — into wielding a cursed dagger meant to control her. Chasing her power for his clan, Zul'jan struck a bargain whose price was himself. Her release is the climax the whole Midnight storyline has been building toward.

Pre-release data describes a three-stage fight with two intermissions, escalating through venom waves, an endless serpentine brood, and a final ascension as she tears her prison apart. Crucially, Blizzard has withheld Ula'tek from PTR testing — standard practice to protect the kill reveal — so every mechanic should be read as datamined and subject to change.

What does she drop?

Her headline reward is datamined as the Primeval Skyfriend mount on Mythic, with the Mythic kill granting the 'Venom's End' title. Her table is reported to sit at the raid's item-level peak, carrying named weapons, trinkets, and 'Venomcursed' gear. All of this is pre-release PTR data and not yet final.

There's no confirmed date. The consensus projection puts Patch 12.1 around August 11, 2026, with the raid and Season 2 opening roughly a week later and Mythic — the first legitimate Ula'tek kills — about a week after that. Treat these as estimates until Blizzard announces.
